The unique terroir of Champagne, particularly its chalky soils, combined with centuries of winemaking history, leaves a distinct imprint on the wine. Located about two-and-a-half hours' drive east of Paris, Champagne is a single appellation with five main subregions:

- Vallée de la Marne
- Côte des Blancs
