Morena, the political party led by Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum, is seeking to ban "narcocorridos," songs that glorify cartels, in Sinaloa.
The initiative would ban these songs in public spaces, including public transportation, offices, schools, and is already moving forward in the state congress.
The proposal claims that such songs reinforce harmful stereotypes and normalize behavior that goes against values that should be promoted in public spaces.
Several public officials have spoken against "narcocorridos." Sheinbaum announced a song contest, "Mexico Canta" (Mexico Sings), to counter these songs, promoting peace and fighting addictions.
