Utah GOP Launches Efforts to Overturn Voter-Approved Prop 4

The Utah Republican Party has initiated efforts to undo a voter-approved initiative and a recently approved set of congressional maps.

In Salt Lake City, Utah GOP Chair Rob Axson filed a citizen initiative to repeal Proposition 4, which created an independent redistricting commission in 2018. Additionally, a referendum was filed to overturn the new congressional map passed by lawmakers in a recent special session.

Utah voters “did not understand what they were signing up for” when approving Proposition 4

Proposition 4 passed with 50.34% of the vote, totaling over 512,000 votes in favor and 505,000 against. The measure established a seven-member independent commission to draw and recommend congressional and legislative maps for the Utah Legislature’s approval.
