A £100 million project to refurbish over 300 Electrostar trains has been completed by Govia Thameslink (GTR) staff at the Selhurst depot.
The project, which took five years to complete, is thought to be the largest fleet upgrade in modern times and was carried out entirely in-house.
GTR operates trains under the Thameslink, Great Northern, Southern, and Gatwick Express names, and the refurbished trains will be used across the network.
The decision to bring the job in-house allowed GTR to utilize its existing Selhurst depot and complete the project without relying on a third-party refurbishment company.
No single train was sent off-site for refurbishment.
