Cane Payment to be Given on Monday as Diwali Cheer
Good news for sugarcane farmers as the final cane payment for the 2024 season, including a Government top-up of $8.27 per tonne, will be given out on Monday.
This will allow thousands of workers and service providers to celebrate Diwali with their families in joy and peace of mind.
The Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs and Sugar Industry, together with the Fiji Sugar Corporation, have ensured that cane cutters, lorry operators, harvester operators, sirdars and field workers will receive their payments ahead of the Diwali festival.
The Ministry says they were approached by sugar industry workers, who expressed concern that their regular fortnightly payments, initially scheduled for Wednesday, would arrive a day after Diwali.
