On Tuesday, October 14, some flights at Kelowna and Victoria airports were delayed due to a hacking incident.
The incident occurred between 5 p.m. at both Kelowna International Airport (YLW) and Victoria International Airport (YYJ), where pro-Hamas messages were displayed on screens and heard through public address systems.
"The YLW team has successfully removed the unauthorized messaging... It has also restored our flight information display screens and are continuing to work on restoring the PA system."
According to a Kelowna Reddit post, the messaging lasted about two minutes and included phrases like "Free Palestine" and curses against the U.S.
The City of Kelowna stated that the cybersecurity incident was limited to a cloud-based third-party software provider.
