Civilians in Chicago are taking matters into their own hands, with some tailing officers, guarding Home Depots, and patrolling their neighborhoods.
A recent incident in the East Side of Chicago, a working-class Latino and Black community, sparked a protest. A car chase ended in the neighborhood, with federal agents pursuing a car they claimed was driven by an undocumented immigrant.
According to eyewitnesses, the car was allegedly rammed intentionally, and as agents pursued the occupants on foot, residents came out to check on the commotion. More federal agents arrived, and the crowd eventually turned into a kind of protest.
A resident, Pauly, found three metal containers on his street, including
a tear-gas canister, a smoke-grenade can, and a pepper-ball projectile round, which he examined at the corner of 105th and Avenue N.
