Los Angeles County Reports First Local Case of More Severe Mpox Strain
Health officials have confirmed the first case of the more severe clade I mpox strain in Los Angeles County.
The case involves an adult who had not recently traveled to areas where the virus typically circulates and was hospitalized but is now recovering at home.
- This is the second clade I mpox case in the county.
- This is also the second case in the nation involving someone without known international travel.
County officials are working with the California Department of Public Health and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to investigate the infections and prevent further spread.
Mpox has two main strains: clade I and clade II.
