Vermont Republican State Senator Faces Calls to Resign
A Vermont Republican state senator is under pressure to resign after a leaked group chat revealed racist and antisemitic messages.
Samuel Douglass, 27, a first-term senator from Orleans County, was involved in a text chat with fellow young Republicans from four states, including Vermont.
The hateful statements made in this group chat are disgusting and unacceptable.
Vermont Gov. Phil Scott called on Douglass to resign, stating the above. Douglass was recently nominated for "Legislator of the Year" at the Vermont GOP's Awards Night.
Douglass was part of a historic red wave last November, helping the GOP pick up six seats in the Vermont Senate.
