California Cops Banned from Concealing Police Killings
A new California law, signed by Gov. Gavin Newsom, will put an end to a deceptive policing tactic used against families of people killed by police.
According to a Reveal investigation, police agencies and prosecutors' offices will now be required to inform families of people seriously injured or killed by police what has happened to their loved one before questioning them.
- Investigators will be barred from lying to families.
- Investigators will be barred from pressuring families into consenting to interviews.
- Families will be allowed to bring a support person to interviews.
The legislation was sparked by a Reveal investigation into the practice.
