Mississippi to Reopen Prison Homicide Cases from 2015

Nearly 50 prison deaths will be re-examined after a joint investigation by multiple newsrooms in Mississippi.

The Mississippi Department of Corrections will review over two dozen unprosecuted homicides and deaths with "undetermined" causes, following an investigation by news sites including The Marshall Project - Jackson and Mississippi Today.

"All the deaths that we’ve had since 2015, we’re going back to revisit,"

said Corrections Commissioner Burl Cain. He noted that

"there is no statute of limitations, as you know, on homicide."
